  • Fitness Hygiene Tips
  • Several complaints/comments have been made to us about dance floor etiquette and personal hygiene. Here is a collection of some of these comments and suggestions (some humorous?) on how we can make dancing more pleasant for us all.
  • Body odor (#1 worst offender!). This sounds rank… and it is. Suggested remedies: Shower if possible beforehand. Wear a CLEAN shirt. If you sweat heavily, bring an extra shirt or wear a cotton T-shirt (V-neck) under your shirt. Sounds like this would make you sweat more but actually does the opposite. It absorbs perspiration, plus has the added benefit of cooling you! Use a generous amount of deodorant and purchase an all-over body spray that has a longer-lasting fragrance with effective deodorant protection. Go easy on perfumes/colognes — use after bathing NOT instead of!
  • No toothpicks, cigarettes, or food on the dance floor for obvious reasons.
  • Exercise clothing odor. Most of us have a problem with our exercise clothing that when sweaty they get a damp and humid odor to them. Washing your exercise clothes right after working out helps but after overuse even that does not help. Following are some tips:
  • Buy and use WIN High Performance Sport Detergent. This product is the “Official Detergent of the US Olympic Team.” It uses oxygenation to remove stains and smells from your exercise clothes. WIN is safe to use on all types of fabrics. It won’t fade colors and it’s biodegradable. You can find this detergent at sporting goods stores or online
  • If you use your normal laundry detergent to clean your exercise clothes, when the rinse cycle starts, pour a cup of white vinegar into your washing machine. Do this for every load of exercise clothes you wash. The acidic vinegar will help neutralize odors and smells.
  • Add 20 Mule Team® Borax along with your normal laundry detergent to every load of exercise clothes you wash. This laundry booster will help clean and deodorize the clothes without harming the fabrics.
  • Remove the smell from sweat-stained exercise clothes by pre-treating the armpits and crotches. Simply spray the areas with a clear mouthwash first. Then launder the items as usual. The antiseptic properties of the mouthwash will neutralize the odors and make your exercise clothes smell fresh and clean.
